The Brief
The existing house was a typical Victorian mid-terrace that had not been modernised for decades. Behind the crumbling plaster and rotten floors were some significant structural issues. Our client is the owner, occupier and architect with a very strong and exacting vision to reconfigure and improve this property and include both rear and loft extensions.
Our solution
After remediating as much as possible, much of the existing structure was replaced and only the front facade and two party-walls retained. These were underpinned and a lower ground floor was dug out before completing the remaining structure. The fit-out package contained an extraordinary level of detail and with flush-fitting features and zero-tolerance margins, we needed to draw on our experience and dedication to achieve it.
The outcome
With so many non-standard items, work to implement this needed to be spot-on from day one right through to handover. Being shortlisted for the NLA's 'Don't Move, Improve' awards and featured in Architects Journal underlines the success of the project.
The design provided an outstanding example of bespoke carpentry work, bringing to life an immaculate home, full of space, light and simple living. Hidden storage and tucked-away doors bring quiet depth to this house, keeping the focus on the people within it, living well.
We very much enjoyed working with the client, building a relationship and trust alongside the physical work. This was instrumental in delivering something of which we are immensely proud. Despite the pandemic-related delays, this project let our team demonstrate their capability for detail, perfection and exemplary finishing skills.
